We’re here to say that the slow fashion movement has withstood the test of time and continues to gain momentum in an effort to truly transform the fashion industry. 

Synthetic fibers, including polyester and polyamide, have a bad name when it comes to sustainability. But even these notoriously environmentally harmful fabrics can be produced in a more thoughtful manner that reduces harm – through recycling and creating versions that are biodegradable. 

I recently got acquainted with a lovely FabricSight client: togethersegal. Their story is one of togetherness and a dream to bring fashion to an underserved community.

Togethersegal was created by twin sisters Amy and Melissa, who decided to pursue their shared dream of serving the petite community through sustainable and timeless fashion. Already having established careers in completely different areas didn’t stop them from launching their fashion brand together.

Using bast fibres in your designs is a great way to support efforts to preserve and enhance our environment through sustainable fashion. There are a variety of options available online for purchasing fabrics made with natural, bast fibres – linen and hemp being the most common and easiest to source.

Traditionally, houndstooth fabric is widely used in outerwear – especially coats. A beautiful houndstooth wool fabric would be a great pick for adding a coat to your collection!
